Launch notes
Flat water conditions are ideal for progression, but the unknown beach type may require wading or launching from shallow areas. WNW and NW winds are most consistent; check local forecast as mountain-influenced wind can be gusty and variable.
Gear & clothing
Gear · Bring 14-17m kites for the 7kt average winds; larger sizes help in light conditions common on this lake. A directional or twin-tip board works well on flat water for skill development.
Clothing · Pack a 4/3mm or 5/4mm wetsuit year-round as Patagonian lake water remains cold even in summer months (Jan-Mar). Air temperatures vary significantly by season, so layer accordingly.
Crowd & etiquette
Respect other water users including fishermen and tourists on this popular lake. Keep clear communication with other kiters in the limited launch area and follow any local regulations from park authorities.
Additional notes
January-March and September-November offer the best conditions with 168+ windy days annually. Book accommodations in Bariloche early during peak season and check wind forecasts carefully as Patagonian weather changes rapidly.
