About Lac Saint-Louis / Baie de Valois, Canada

Flat-water bay 20 minutes from Montreal. April winds are reliable, but the St. Lawrence controls conditions more than any forecast. Cold water, variable wind shadows, and boat traffic make this an intermediate-only spot.

The flat water bay provides ideal conditions for launches in light to moderate winds. W, WSW, and SW winds are most consistent; launch from protected areas of the bay to avoid river currents.

Gear & clothing

Gear · Bring 15-17m kites for the average 10 kt winds; a 13m is useful for windier April days. A directional board or small wave board works best on the flat water.

Clothing · A 4/3mm wetsuit is essential year-round due to cold freshwater; spring requires 5/4mm thickness even in April. Gloves and booties are highly recommended.

Crowd & etiquette

Respect boat traffic and stay clear of shipping channels leading to the St. Lawrence River. Keep communication with other water users and avoid launching during peak boat traffic times.

Additional notes

April is the prime season with consistent winds and improving water temperatures. Check St. Lawrence River conditions before sessions as bay conditions can change with upstream weather patterns.
