Launch notes
Flat water conditions make this ideal for learning; launch from the beach during NE and N wind directions which are most consistent. Monitor tide changes as shallow areas can become extremely restricted.
Gear & clothing
Gear · Use 14-17m kites to maximize light wind days (avg 13.7 kts), with a beginner-friendly directional board or hydrofoil for the flat water. Twin-tip boards work well for learning in these consistent but variable conditions.
Clothing · A 3-2mm wetsuit is sufficient for Caribbean waters; opt for lighter protection during peak season (Jan-Apr) when water temperatures reach 27-28°C. Rashguards are recommended for sun protection.
Crowd & etiquette
Respect local fishermen and their nets in the area, and always launch downwind from other riders. Keep communication clear with other kiters in the relatively compact flat-water zone.
Additional notes
The 130 windy days per year make this a reliable spot, though consistency peaks Dec-April with NE trade winds. Check local weather forecasts as Caribbean sea breezes can shift rapidly in afternoon hours.
