Launch notes
The flat water conditions make this ideal for beginners, with launches easiest from sandy areas when NE to ENE winds blow. Avoid rocky sections and scout for shallow coral before entering the water.
Gear & clothing
Gear · Pack 14-17m kites to handle the light average wind of 11 knots; twin-tip boards or larger directional boards work well for flat water progression. Consider bringing two kite sizes since wind consistency varies seasonally.
Clothing · A 3-5mm wetsuit is recommended year-round as water temperatures range from 20-28°C; lighter suits work in summer months (May-Aug). Sun protection and rash guards are essential for this intense desert sun location.
Crowd & etiquette
Respect local diving operations and stay clear of marked dive sites; coordinate with other kiters during peak season as the spot can get crowded. Give right-of-way to swimmers and snorkelers in the shallow zones.
Additional notes
Dahab is a mellow, traveler-friendly town with excellent infrastructure for kiters; plan visits during peak wind months (Sep, May, Aug) for best conditions. Always check local weather forecasts and tidal schedules before heading out, as conditions vary significantly.
