Amenities

Beachfront warungs and cafes in Balian villageBasic accommodation and guesthouses within walking distanceLocal shops for water sports supplies and repairsBeach break nearby for alternative activities on light wind days

Hazards

Choppy ocean conditions with strong local currents and occasional rip currentsShallow reef areas and submerged rocks near shoreLimited wind consistency with very few windy days annuallyTropical storms and sudden weather changes during monsoon transitions

Launch notes

Launch from the beach during ESE, N, or SE wind directions for optimal conditions. The choppy water requires careful entry; scout launch points during lower tide when shallow areas are more defined.

Gear & clothing

Gear · Bring 14-17m kites to maximize light wind days, as average wind is only 7.5 kts. A twin-tip or directional board works well for choppy conditions; consider a wave board if swell is consistent.

Clothing · A 3/2mm wetsuit is suitable year-round for tropical waters; wear a 2/2mm or rashguard during warmest months (June-August). Sun protection is essential due to equatorial UV intensity.

Crowd & etiquette

Respect local fishermen and traditional boat traffic in the area. Maintain awareness of other ocean users and communicate clearly when sharing the water.

Additional notes

Visit during July, June, or March for best wind windows when dry season winds peak. Plan activities around the limited windy days and use calm periods to explore local breaks, reefs, and coastal villages.
