Launch notes
Playa Bonita offers easy beach launching with a gently sloping sandy shore ideal for beginners. Wind typically approaches from the SE/ESE, providing consistent offshore-to-cross-shore conditions with minimal turbulence.
Gear & clothing
Gear · Use 13-17m kites for the 11-knot average conditions; the flat water is perfect for twin-tip boards or hydrofoil setups. Bring multiple kite sizes to adapt to the variable wind between 8-15 knots.
Clothing · A 2-3mm rashguard or lightweight wetsuit is sufficient year-round due to warm Caribbean waters (75-82°F). Sun protection through UV clothing is highly recommended given intense tropical sun exposure.
Crowd & etiquette
Respect the flat water zone as shared space with swimmers and snorkelers, particularly near the reef. Always maintain awareness of other kiters and communicate when sharing the limited riding area.
Additional notes
Best winds arrive March-April during the dry season; January also offers reliable conditions. Plan sessions for early morning when winds are steadiest and tourist boat traffic is lightest.
