Hazards

Strong currents and tidal flows around the island requiring careful route planningShallow water patches and potential coral/rock formations in flat water areasOccasional sudden wind shifts from NE to SW requiring constant awarenessRemote location with limited rescue services; always kite with a buddy

Launch notes

Flat water conditions make this ideal for beginners, with consistent SSW/SW winds dominating. Launch from sandy beaches on the eastern side of the island where winds are most stable and offshore.

Gear & clothing

Gear · Bring 14-17m kites to maximize light wind days (~15kt average), with a directional board or small wave board for flat water progression. Consider a larger kite option for the lighter wind days common outside peak season.

Clothing · A 3-4mm wetsuit is suitable for most months, though summer (Jun-Aug) allows shorter suits or rash guards due to warm water temperatures. Reef booties recommended due to potential rocky/coral areas.

Crowd & etiquette

Respect local fishing areas and boats; this is an active fishing community. Keep a safe distance from other water users and check conditions with locals before each session.

Additional notes

July-August is peak season with strongest winds but extreme heat; May-June and September offer excellent conditions with moderate temperatures. Plan transport to the island in advance as it's remote; the best landing spot may vary seasonally with tidal conditions.
