Amenities

Beach bars and restaurants in nearby Mancora townKite schools and rental shops with local equipmentBasic accommodation and hostels within walking distanceFresh water showers and changing facilities at main beach

Hazards

Strong currents and rip tides common in the bay areaShallow sections with rocks and reef hazards near shoreLimited visibility during high wind conditions with sand churnOccasional jellyfish and sea urchins in warm season

Launch notes

Launch from the sandy beach when wind is onshore (S, SE, SW directions). Flat water conditions make this ideal for beginners to practice water starts and tricks without wave interference.

Gear & clothing

Gear · Bring 14-17m kites for the average 11 kt winds; consider a 12m for stronger days. A directional or hybrid board works well for flat water progression.

Clothing · A 2-3mm wetsuit is sufficient year-round due to warm equatorial Pacific waters (24-26°C). Quick-dry shorts and rash guards provide adequate sun protection.

Crowd & etiquette

Respect the large local kite school operations and maintain distance from lesson areas. Keep clear of swimmers and fishing boats that frequent the bay.

Additional notes

Mancora is a well-developed tourist destination with excellent kite facilities; book accommodation ahead during peak season (May-October). Wind is most consistent in the afternoon, typically 1-4pm daily.
