About Altea, Spain
Flat water and 8-knot average winds make Altea a beginner's training spot, not a destination. NE thermals are unpredictable, but the seafood and town culture fill the dead hours.

Launch notes
Flat water conditions are ideal for beginners, but check wind direction carefully—NE and ENE winds offer the most consistent sessions. Launch from sandy beach areas when possible, avoiding rocky sections that can damage equipment.
Gear & clothing
Gear · Pack a 14-17m kite for light wind days (8 kts average) and have a 12m option for stronger thermal conditions. A directional or freestyle board works well in flat water; avoid wave boards given the absence of swell.
Clothing · A 3/2mm wetsuit suffices year-round in the Mediterranean, though 2mm is comfortable during summer months (May-September). Spring and autumn (March-April, October) may require slightly warmer protection.
Crowd & etiquette
Share the flat water zone with swimmers during peak summer months and maintain awareness of local beach users. Keep a safe distance from anchored boats and respect any marked swimming areas.
Additional notes
Altea's low wind average (8 kts) means sessions are sporadic; check detailed forecasts and visit during the March-June or October peak windows. The town offers excellent food and cultural attractions, making it a relaxing destination between wind days.
