Launch notes
Rocky Bay offers limited sand beach so launches are challenging; scout entry/exit routes carefully to avoid submerged rocks. WSW and W winds provide the most consistent conditions with cleaner water access.
Gear & clothing
Gear · Pack 15-17m kites to handle the moderate 12kt average winds and variable gusts; a freestyle or wave board works well for the choppy conditions. Bring backup kites as conditions can be inconsistent.
Clothing · A 3mm spring suit or rash guard is suitable year-round in tropical Thailand's warm water; consider booties for rocky beach protection. UV protection is essential due to strong equatorial sun.
Crowd & etiquette
Respect local fishermen's nets and boats operating in the area, and coordinate with other kiters to avoid crowding in limited launching zones. Always check with locals about safe entry points.
Additional notes
Best conditions occur during the dry seasons (Dec-Feb and Jun-Aug) when wind is most reliable; avoid monsoon periods with unpredictable swells. Scout the spot carefully before committing as rocky hazards make it better suited for intermediate+ riders.
