Amenities

Beach bars and restaurants within walking distance in Hua Thanon villageBasic accommodation and guesthouses nearbyLocal shops for water sports supplies in Samui town

Hazards

Shallow water and hidden rocks/coral in the bay—watch for submerged obstaclesStrong tidal currents and occasional boat traffic near the beachMonsoon season swells can create choppy conditions despite flat-water reputation

Launch notes

Launch from the sandy beach during incoming tide for best conditions; ESE and NE winds offer the most consistent thermal-sea breeze patterns in this protected bay.

Gear & clothing

Gear · Bring 15–17 m² kites for the light average winds (8.8 kts); a directional or hybrid board works best for the flat-water conditions and occasional chop.

Clothing · Wear a lightweight rashguard or 1–2 mm spring suit year-round; the warm tropical water requires minimal thermal protection even during cooler months.

Crowd & etiquette

Respect local fishing activity and stay clear of traditional longtail boats; share the bay peacefully with swimmers and other water users.

Additional notes

September–February offers the most reliable wind windows; check local tide tables before heading out, as shallow areas become very limited at low tide. Consider visiting nearby Bophut or Lamai beaches if Hua Thanon is too light or crowded.
