About Koh Samui / Lipa Noi, Thailand
Lipa Noi is dead flat and forgiving for beginners, but shallow water, reef hazards, and wind that vanishes half the year make it unreliable.

Launch notes
The flat bay waters provide excellent conditions for beginners, with easy sandy beach launches. Watch for shifting wind patterns during seasonal transitions and time your session around favorable wind directions from the west or northeast.
Gear & clothing
Gear · Pack kites in the 14-17m range to maximize light wind days averaging 8.6 knots; consider a smaller 12m for stronger wind days. A twin-tip or directional board works well for the flat water conditions.
Clothing · A 2-3mm wetsuit or rash guard is sufficient year-round given Thailand's tropical climate; wear more protection during cooler months (Jan-Feb). Consider UV protection and quick-dry clothing for extended sessions.
Crowd & etiquette
Respect local fishing activities and avoid launching during peak fishing times early morning and late afternoon. Maintain awareness of other water users and stay in designated kiting areas away from boat traffic.
Additional notes
Wind is most consistent during Sep-Nov and Jan-Feb; summer months (Jul-Aug) are variable so plan sessions carefully. Check tide schedules as shallow areas become even more restricted during low tide.
