About Kho Samet / Ao Cho, Thailand
Ao Cho demands respect—protected launch masks Gulf swells, strong currents, and unpredictable thermals. Monsoon season (July–September) brings wind; the rest of the year is a gamble.

Launch notes
Ao Cho bay offers relatively protected launch conditions with sandy entry points. NE and SW winds provide the most consistent sessions; avoid launch during weak thermal winds in early morning.
Gear & clothing
Gear · A 14-17m kite is ideal for the 9kt average winds; consider a wave or freestyle board suited to choppy conditions. Bring a smaller 12m kite for stronger wind days when NE or SW directions peak.
Clothing · A thin 2-3mm wetsuit or rash guard is sufficient year-round given Thailand's tropical climate; consider a hood during monsoon months for sun protection. Board shorts are acceptable during warmest months.
Crowd & etiquette
Respect local fishing activity in the bay and avoid launching during peak tourism hours. Share the water with swimmers and keep a safe distance from other water users.
Additional notes
July-September monsoon season offers the most consistent winds but rougher waters; November-January provides cleaner conditions. Book accommodation in advance during peak season and check local weather reports for sudden tropical storms.
