Amenities

Breakas Beach Resort nearby with accommodation and basic facilitiesLocal food and water available in nearby villagesLimited kite shops—bring spare parts and repair equipment

Hazards

Choppy ocean conditions with strong currents requiring confident water skillsCoral reefs and shallow areas near shore—scout the launch zone carefullySudden wind shifts and thermal effects common in tropical island locationsLimited rescue infrastructure; always kite with a buddy

Launch notes

Launch from Breakas Beach during ESE to SE wind conditions for most consistent conditions. Choppy water means a gradual entry and watchful eye on wind strength; avoid launching in NW winds when offshore conditions become unpredictable.

Gear & clothing

Gear · Pack 12-14m and 16-17m kites to handle the moderate 11.3 kt average wind with frequent lulls. A directional or freeride board suits the choppy conditions better than a twintip.

Clothing · A 2-3mm spring suit or boardshorts work year-round; water stays warm in tropical Vanuatu. Consider a rashguard for sun protection and minor coral scrapes.

Crowd & etiquette

Respect local fishing areas and any reef boundaries; check with locals before your session. Keep a safe distance from swimmers and swimmers and other water users.

Additional notes

Best conditions occur May–October when trade winds are most reliable; February–March can bring typhoon swells and unpredictable weather. Stock up on supplies in Port Vila before heading to Efate, as the spot is relatively remote.
